Marilyn Monroe once sang, “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” and today’s red carpet regulars couldn’t agree more. Diamonds of every kind—from modern diamonds to vintage diamonds to white diamonds, yellow diamonds, pink diamonds, and blue diamonds—continue to dominate at the Hollywood award shows with everyone from Angelina Jolie to Oprah wearing them.
Tom Cruise recently surprised Katie Holmes with a single-strand diamond choker. Not long after that, she started wearing a five-carat Edwardian-style diamond engagement ring. Experts say that Edwardian diamond engagement rings will be one of this year’s favorite engagement ring styles. Heidi Klum is wearing a huge canary yellow diamond heart, a birthday gift from husband Seal. He bought it to match the canary engagement ring he gave her shortly before they married. Also expect a return in popularity of diamond initials, stemming from Madonna wearing her diamond “M” at the Live 8 concert.
Draw attention to your face
Celebrities often wear earrings, necklaces, and hair ornaments to events, knowing photographers often take pictures of them from the neck up. Celebrities want to put the bling where it shows and draw attention to their faces. When Scarlett Johansson’s picture appeared as she was receiving the New Power award, she was right on trend with a pair of long dangle earrings with pearls on the end.
Embrace bangle bracelets
Stars continue to wear bangle bracelets when they’re out and about. Kyra Sedgwick was recently seen with her right arm full of skinny gold bangle bracelets and her left with a single wide jade bangle bracelet. Halle Berry also wears an armful of skinny gold bangle bracelets, some of them studded with diamonds. The girls of Malibu and Santa Monica, Kate Hudson, Courtney Cox, and Jennifer Aniston, all wear wooden beads and bangles as part of the laid-back Bohemian style.
Give your jewelry a dual personality
The public eye frequently focuses on celebrities, so some of them don’t like to be seen in the same jewelry too often. These celebrities think of ways to mix their jewelry up and make it look different. For example, at last year’s Oscars, Scarlett Johansson put vintage brooches on a ribbon, which she then used as a headband. Another celebrity had her hairdresser put a strand of pearls in her up-do. Cate Blanchett wore pink, yellow, lavender, and green sapphire daisy brooches in her hair. Daytime Emmy winner Eden Riegel of “All My Children” put a brooch on a chain and turned it into a diamond necklace. The popular pearl belt is often just a long strand of pearls. Other celebrities put crystal brooches or vintage rhinestone brooches on daytime bags to turn them into evening bags.
