Pearl History and its Creation
The actual time of pearl discovery is not known but according the historians the evolution of the pearls take place 4000 years back. At that time many cultures were attracted by the beauty of the Pearls. It was admired by countries like China, Rome and Italy. The Indian Emperors were crazy about pearls. The charm of the pearls is not because it is beautiful but because it is a special and unique gemstone which is very hard to find.
A lot of risks and dangers are associated with the retrieval of the pearls from the depth of Sea and Oceans. Pearl is the only gemstone whose creation occurs inside a living organism. It is created when an outside substance is invaded by means of a parasite in the shell. There are more than 8000 species of shell fishes but only 20 have the ability to create a pearl. When a foreign substance invades inside the shell then shell responds to it by secretion of a substance which is crystalline by nature. It is known as a Nacre.
It is responsible to create the inner and outer walls of the pearls and provides it shine and luster. That is why Nacre is referred as the mother of the pearls because in true sense it gives birth to the pearl. The walls of the pearls are created over a very long period of time. The wall formation is very difficult if it happens in fully natural condition. Therefore the desired shape for a natural pearl is almost impossible. So a spherical shaped Natural pearl is very rare and if it exists then it is priceless. If we fully depends for the production of pearls on the nature then a pearl bearer will be the richest man on this earth.
Moreover the pearl beds will extinct within a few years because of large amount of harvesting. in the twentieth century some Japanese researchers came with the idea of artificial pearl creation Kokichi Mikimoto is the person who is associated with finding the technique of artificially creation of the pearls. In the artificial methods the foreign substance is entered in the shell and then it is returned back to the sea. After that the pearl formation occurs naturally within the sight of the man. Now a days Pearl Jewelry items such as Pearl Bracelets and Pearl Earrings are very popular.
